Shena Groner

About the Artist:

I've always loved art, and started drawing when I was a little girl (usually fashion dresses, which is an art unto itself!) then became more of an artist by high school - creating abstract art and also drawing realistic people and objects.  I discovered ceramics (loved it & still do, but never had the space, time or money to pursue that direction) and photography - and while I still hope to go back to painting abstracts and throwing pottery, photography is a part of me, and stayed with me even when I got a lot busier with a husband - and eventually 4 kids!

I think visual beauty is everywhere, and I enjoy capturing the full range of it: breathtaking landscapes, moody & foggy / stark scenes, emotional & intense black and white, the color in nature or children, the quirks of animals and the freeze of great action.  Some people get a high from running or shopping, but I get that photo high when I grab that moment where a child laughs in pure joy, or looks at you with complete mischief in their eyes.  I love that I can go to a beautiful spot and get a million different pictures, not just by weather and seasons, or even the changing light during one day, but that I can move and turn and change my perspective over and over again.  It's awesome to see how a textured pattern takes center stage when zooming in - changing a scene to a cool abstract - and how a flower becomes more dramatic when you focus on the shadows and angles.

I've lived in several states over the years, but mostly Washington & Oregon (I will always be a Pacific Northwest girl) and the Tri-Cities is really the best place I've ever lived.  It's a wonderful mixture of small town friendliness and big city conveniences - wrapped up in great weather!  I've been adding to my collection a lot of beautiful local landscapes / abstracts, and only see that growing (Really growing - especially since I'm a believer in the "take 100 photos to get the 10 stunners" method).
